March 24, 2010 - Bursa

The collective dismissal process initiated by Bechtel for app. 2000 employees from Autostrada Transilvania site is “reversible” and could be stopped at any moment, a final decision would be taken in April, declared yesterday Bogdan Sgarcitu, the company’s spokesperson.
At the end of the meeting with the prefect Florin Stamatian, held at Cluj Prefect office, attended by Michael Swinford, General Manager of Bechtel Romania and Bogdan Sgarcitu, the later stated that this week might start the discussions for the protocol regarding the works to be executed in 2010, reported Mediafax.
“We had a working meeting during which we informed each other on the latest developments. We expect to initiate discussions for the protocol concerning 2010 works and hopefully this week we will start meetings with CNADNR representatives. In the next period a meeting would take place between our financial specialists in London and the MoF’s financial specialists in Bucharest, to identify an alternative funding solution for the project”, Sgarcitu stated.
According to Sgarcitu, as soon as the protocol is signed, Bechtel management will discuss with the Unions and, based on the works to be performed this year, a joint decision will be taken upon the workforce needed on site.
“The collective dismissal procedure continues but it can be stopped at any time. The process is reversible; the individual decisions will be taken between 6-30 April” added Bechtel’s spokesperson.
Prefect Florin Stamatian also declared that, at present “the ball is in CNADNR’s court, which is going to initiate discussions to sign the protocol with Bechtel.”
The fate of the motorway employees might be decided upon the protocol to be signed. Until this agreement is signed, other modifications to the current contract with Bechtel are out of discussion”, added Stamatian.
Next meeting with Bechtel representatives will take place at Prefect’s office in Cluj in two weeks.
