15 students join the summer internship program at the Autostrada Transilvania Project
July 06, 2009

During the student summer vacation, between July 1st and September 30th, 15 students from the Cluj-Napoca Technical University will take part in the Summer Internship program on the Autostrada Transilvania site. The internship program is now at its fourth edition and this year it has registered the highest number of participants.

The 15 students are in their third or fourth year of study and specialize in Civil Engineering, Railways, Roads and Bridges, and Equipment Engineering. During the internship they will work in one of the following departments of the Autostrada Transilvania Project: earthworks, structures, equipment, quality control and assurance, paving, construction site management.

The interns will be trained by the Environmental, Health and Safety department concerning the Project’s Zero Accident policy, and they have the obligation to comply with all safety and labor safety norms. The students are employed under a temporary labor agreement recorded into their work book and will have the same rights as the rest of the Project’s employees.

Internal coordinators have been assigned within each department involved in the Summer Internship program who will guide and supervise each student. One engineer will mentor one student, whom he will coordinate and guide in developing and editing the final paper. At the completion of the internship period, the student’s paper will be presented to the managers of the departments involved.

“This is the fourth year when students are given the opportunity to complete paid internships on the Autostrada Transilvania site. This way, students get to take part in all activities of the departments they are assigned to, and they get familiar with the working environment and work safety practices within the current largest infrastructure project in Europe. The students also get up to date employment opportunities within the Project and may join the Autostrada Transilvania team upon graduation”, declared Bogdan Sgarcitu, External Affairs Manager with the Autostrada Transilvania Project.

The Summer Internship program held on the Autostrada Transilvania construction site was promoted among the students through presentations held by the Community Relations Department, in events set up by Student Organization of the Cluj-Napoca Technical University.
