12 Students Join the Summer Internship Program at the Autostrada Transilvania Project
July 13, 2010

During the student summer vacation (July – September), 12 students from the Cluj-Napoca Technical University will take part in the Summer Internship program on the Autostrada Transilvania site. The internship program is now at its fifth edition.

The 12 students specialized in Civil Engineering, Railways, Roads and Bridges, will carry out their internship in one of the following departments of the Autostrada Transilvania Project: earthworks, structures, quality assurance and control, paving, survey, field engineering.

Before beginning their internship training, the interns have been trained by the Environmental, Health and Safety department concerning the Project’s Zero Accident policy and they will have the obligation to comply with all safety and labor safety norms throughout the entire training period.

Internal coordinators have been assigned within each department involved in the Summer Internship program to guide and supervise each student. One engineer will mentor one student, whom he will coordinate and guide in developing and editing the final paper. At the completion of the internship period, the students will delivery a presentation of their final papers before the managers of the departments involved.

In the course of the three months of internship, the students will take part in the activities of the departments they have been assigned to, they will acquire new knowledge and get familiar with work safety practices and thus, come to learn what the work environment on a construction site means.

“This internship represents a great opportunity to put the theoretical knowledge taught to us in faculty to practical use and, particularly, to learn a lot of new things from professionals. By taking an active part to the execution of this infrastructure project, we come into contact with engineering technologies and job sites never before seen in Romania. I am convinced that all these things will help us in our shaping as future engineers.”, declares student A.O, intern with the Field Engineering Department.

“This is the fifth year when students who are interested in the construction field are given the opportunity to complete internships on the Autostrada Transilvania site. We hope that the interns will enjoy a special and, at the same time, useful experience by joining for three months what is the largest infrastructure project in Europe”, declared Bogdan Sgarcitu, External Affairs Manager with the Autostrada Transilvania Project.

The Summer Internship program held on the Autostrada Transilvania construction site was promoted among the students through presentations held by the Community Relations Department, in events set up by Student Organization of the Cluj-Napoca Technical University.
