Overview

Sustainable development is one of the premier values of the Bechtel Company and it represents the commitment of the Autostrada Transilvania Project to local communities.

The most quoted definition of sustainable development is given in 1986, one year after the Chernobyl disaster, when the so-called Brundtland Report is published: Sustaintable development aims at meeting the needs of the present, without compromising the capacity of future generation to meet their own needs.

Through the activities of its sustainable development department, the Autostrada Transilvania Proiect applies sustainable development practices in order to stimulate economic growth in local communities, improve quality of life and protect the environment. Moreover, together with the interested communities, we are analyzing the economic, social and environmental impact of the project, with a view to developing and implementing programs meant to meet local development needs. All these result in a positive relationship with local communities and as such bring long-term benefits.

Here are some of the most important programs set into motion by the Autostrada Transilvania Project for sustainable development of communities on the motorway alignment during the construction period:

  • Road safety program
  • Financial education and entrepreneurial abilities development
“I want to be an entrepreneur!” Project
Financial education and business development consulting
  • Local development
    Telecentre Project
  • Employee and subcontractor development program
  • Erosion control and environmental education program
